On Sunday 28th October the Dunoonpeeps team were invited to the magnificent grounds of Toward Castle to watch the filming of the award winning BBC Children’s program “RAVEN”. Few people in Dunoon could have failed to notice the yearly invasion of the BBC as their lorries and vans whiz around the local area. On this particular shoot, they were filming by the pond, the area a bustle of cameras, sound booms, clapper boards and the inevitable tea-tent. In between takes we chatted to the star of the show 28 year old James Mackenzie... “Dunoon has become very much part of my life and I love the place”, he told us. “ It’s my second home, as I have been coming here for the last six years.” We asked him how he first landed the part of Raven and he told us that he auditioned for it in 2002 during his final year in drama college. To his delight, his audition was successful and he started work on the first series just two days after finishing at college. This year’s filming of the seventh series started in October, shortly after James returned from his honeymoon in Bali. He married actress Helen McAlpine who he met at college. When filming has finished, James will be moving on to star in an Edinburgh pantomime where he plays the part of Julian McGregor, which he describes as “a bit of a prince charming role”. The Dunoonpeeps team thought this entirely fitting as James is one of the most charming men you could ever wish to meet.
