When Allan Polland was a young lad and learning to write and play music there was nowhere he could go to record his songs. This is what prompted him to set up the Dunoonrock Website, where budding musicians can display their work to the rest of the world. The Website is for anyone who writes their own music and best of all it’s free to upload onto the site and anyone wanting to listen can also download the tracks for free. Allan has been teaching and recording music in Dunoon for the past few years, at present he has students ranging from age six to pensioners. He enjoys spending time in the Hudson Recording Studio where students have the opportunity to see all the technical side of producing tracks and putting the final product onto cd.
If you would like to have affordable music lessons or help with musical examinations, Allan is available, just email him at; admin@dunoonrock.co.uk

THE DUNOONPEEPS TRACK

Scott McKinnon

Scott McKinnon

Two years ago Scott McKinnon was given an excellent present of a keyboard and piano lessons. He certainly has put them to good use. By now you will have heard the Dunoonpeeps jingle playing on this page. The keyboard is being played by Scott who has music lessons with Allan once a week. He enjoys learning about music and was pleased when Allan asked him to play on the Dunoonpeeps track. Scott is a pupil at Toward Primary School where he is in Primary 5, Miss Williams class. He is also a member of Dunoon Swimming Club and has won three medals at local swimming galas. Asked if he wanted to go on to have a career in music he replied that he wants to be like his dad, a policeman when he grows up. Music to his Dads ears no doubt.

Stephen Gallacher

Learning how to write lyrics for a song has helped Stephen Gallacher to express his thoughts and feelings on many subjects. Like many teenagers, Stephen has recognized the intense feelings associated with falling in and out of love and the way in which a good song can convey the joy and pain. Taking music lessons from Allan helped him to write the song ‘Sick of Love’, which can be downloaded from the Dunoonrock website. More recently, Stephen has been tackling world issues, co-writing ‘How Lucky am I’ with Martin Haligan as way of raising awareness about the situation affecting the people in Darfur. He is presently working on a new song inspired by the story of a boxer who was wrongly imprisoned for 20 years.

Stephen (16), would love to have a career in the music industry and is currently looking into the possibility of gaining entry into an American College and working towards a scholarship. With his obvious talent and with Allan’s encouragement, Stephen Gallacher is a young man with the potential to ’live the dream’.

Craig Walker

Craig Walker

Craig Walker

Craig Walker (17) has been interested in guitar music from an early age. He’s passionate about music from the 1950’s and 60’s and is heavily influenced by the old Rockabilly sound. He can trace this back to an old pinball machine his father owned which played the classic hit, ‘Summertime Blues’ by Eddie Cochran.

Now at age seventeen, Craig is writing and performing his own music and recently took part in the Dunoon Grammar School play ‘Grease’ which can be viewed on YouTube.
He has been going to Allan Polland for music lessons for over five years now and credits Allan for giving him all the help and encouragement he needed to pass his Grade 5 music exam. Looking to the future, Craig would love to teach music in school himself, passing on to other pupils the motivation he has received in the last few years from Allan.

Andrew MacIntosh

Another of Allan’s students is 14 year old Andrew MacIntosh. He has been learning piano for the past 3 years and music is a very important part of his life. Andrew, a pupil at Dunoon Grammar School has endured some extensive surgery over the years and has come through it with flying colours. This inspired him to record his track ‘Flying Colours’ which can be listened to on the Dunoonrock Website.
