* She was built at John Brown’s Shipyard and known only as ‘Job number 736’ until she was launched by the Queen on the 20th September 1967

 

*Her 40th Anniversary is her 1,400 voyage

 

*She has sailed 5,665,688 million nautical miles

 

*Carried over 2.5 million passengers

 

*Completed 801 Atlantic crossings

 

*Completed 25 full World Cruises

 

*Been commanded by 25 Captains

 

*Is 963ft long and 105ft wide

 

*Can carry 1,778 passengers and over 1,000 crew members

 

*Weighs 70,000 tonnes

 

*Has 9 diesel engines, each the size of a double decker bus

 

Has the largest marine motor ever built

 

*Has the largest cinema at sea (capacity 531)

 

*Has the only Synagogue at sea

 

* Is capable of speeds up to 34 knots (cruising speed 28.5 knots)

 

*Can sail backwards at a speed of 19 knots

 

*Consumes 18.5 tons of fuel per hour, 433 tons per day

 

*Her rudder weighs 80 tons

 

Requisitioned as ‘Troops Carrier’ she carried 3,000 troops during the 1982 Falklands War

 

* She has been sold to Dubai for £50 Million and is destined to become a floating hotel
